Climate change is not going away but we can do our bit to lessen its impact on our beautiful planet. While travelling, why not explore a sustainable country and stay in an eco-friendly lodge? Considering what experiences these eco-friendly lodges offer and their surroundings, these lodges are fairly priced especially given that the average price for a week’s holiday in Costa Rica is around $1000. Finca Luna Nueva

This sustainable rainforest eco-friendly lodge hotel combined with a organic biodynamic farm is the perfect haven for a green-getaway. They also hold a Certification for Sustainable Tourism in Costa Rica.

Where is it?

This eco-friendly lodge is located in the volcanic highlands, about 25 miles from the cloud forest in Monteverde. La Fortuna, the adventure capital of Costa Rica and home to the famous Adrenal Volcano is about 25 minute away.

How much does it cost?

Prices start from $113 (£81.65) for a single or double room in ‘Luna Casa’ during Green season and increase up to $140 during holiday season. There are also family and individual bungalows, an Earth Bag house and and a new Dome suite.

Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge

With many modern amenities including fire places, satellite tv, complimentary Wi-Fi and mini bars, this eco-boutique hotel provides every guest with a luxioursly comfortable experience. Of course, this means the price is slightly more costly but you are ensured a modern stay while staying in this green paradise.

Where is it?

Dantica is situated in the valley of San Gerardo de Dota. Set inside the Los Santos Forest Reserve, on top of a hill, you are guaranteed mesmerising views of nature and wildlife.

What can you do here?

  • Explore one of the 5km walking trails inside Dantica’s private reserve.
  • Go in search of the 100 plus bird species or 50 plus mammal species found in their private reserve.
  • Explore nearby national parks such as Los Quetzales.
  • Take part in one of their wildlife or nature tours.
  • Enjoy a succulent dining experience in Dantica’s restaurant

How much does it cost?

Prices usually start from around £200 per night during green season for the superior bungalow. Prices increase with their other accommodation options. However, sometimes deals can be found from £100 a night so worth checking even if you think Dantica is a bit pricey.

Selva Bananito

Using recycled wood to make the wooden cabins, this eco-friendly lodge is one of the most sustainably built in Costa Rica. They also provide the local community with income and aim to protect the natural resources that they manage.

Where is it?

On the Caribbean coast, surrounding Selva Bananito is over 2,000 acres of forest in the Talamanca Mountains on the Caribbean coast. It takes about a 3 1/2 hour drive from the capital San Jose.

What can you do here?

  • Try your hand at tree-climbing
  • Attempt waterfall rappelling
  • Go rafting on the Pacuare river
  • Visit the Tortuguero national park on the Caribbean coast
  • Have a go on the Gyrocopter

How much does it cost?

Prices range from around £90 a night for the ‘Kinkajou’ which sleeps 3 to around £120 a night for the Honeymoon suite.

With prices no more expensive than non-eco lodges and the added benefit of being surrounded by nature and wildlife, you would be mad not to choose eco!
