I love to travel. I constantly dream of exploring the world. However, this dream is not always understood so in my journey to discovering it, there are moments of doubt. To travel while working is not a typical way of life and therefore, many of us wonder ‘should I be doing this?’. Maybe I should just get a safe 9-5 job’. But if to travel is your dream then don’t let people you know and society’s opinion scare you away from achieving it. To stay motivated I have gradually built up a community of travellers through my various social media accounts. We inspire each other to follow our dreams. So we have come together to tell you our reasons for why we love to travel in hope of inspiring others.
1. Freedom
I’ve travelled the world for 10 years and still in love with it because of the freedom it provides. I’m not bound by any societies shackles and get to live on my own schedule. I am the architect of my life’s design, meeting, connecting, experiencing whatever I want with whoever I want. – Forever roaming the world
2. Culture and connection
I love to travel because I love experiencing different cultures and immersing myself in a new way of life, even if just for a short while. It expands my knowledge of the world around me and, in turn, expands my wisdom and love for the world and the people in it. – JessDWrites
Besides the adventures, big and small, travel connects the world and builds empathy for others. – WanderWealth
Meeting people from all over and all cultures. – el.on.the.move
3. The journey
Enjoy the journey to the destination , It is part of the adventure of travel. – Adventourist
4. Enrichment
When you take the time to get to know the place you’re visiting. See its beauty, learn its history, eat its food, meet its people. That’s how the experience enriches you. – Mad Hatters NYC
5. The destination
A lot of people say travel is about the people you meet…yes, it’s that.. but it’s also about the destination. It’s about the architecture, the food, the language, the art, the way the sun looks as it rises and sets in a new place…travel feeds mind and soul. – RMWorldtravel
7. Childlike wonder and giving back
In travel, I rediscover that childlike wonder and awe of the world around me. It’s one of the only moments in my usually busy adult life that I can feel that way. Travel also helps me grow as a person and means I can contribute to economies that need tourists. – Discoveny
9. Transformative
I find travel transformative. I started travelling after the death of my husband, I do love travel but it’s more of an ache or need. Like an addiction. In the movie ‘The way’ Emilio Esteves tells his father he is leaving and says “I gotta go, I gotta go”. That’s the feeling for me. It’s like I’m supposed to be somewhere and when I don’t go there I’m not being true to myself. – a2ztraveladict
“Meeting people and stepping outside my comfort zone by doing new things”. – marisa.vogiatzi
10. Acceptance
“The main reason I love to travel is that I have always felt slightly misunderstood but when I travel I no longer feel this. I finally feel like I belong. When amongst fellow travellers there is a feeling of acceptance. I feel my confidence grow and I start to believe I can achieve anything I want to”. – Girl with the suitcase.
11. Expanding our minds
“Expanding the mind”. – Travel Story Society
I want to travel because it helps open your mind. You learn about places, cultures, people and behaviours from all over the world. Travelling keeps you connected. – Travel stories from around the world
“What I love about travelling is meeting new people; facing different cultures with an open mind to learn about beautiful traditions, history and special occasions; trying out typical foods of different countries; and learning to appreciate varying ways of life. However, more than anything I love the self discovery side of traveling: I’ve gotten to truly know myself, my values and my outlook on life whilst travelling. You learn to respect others and appreciate what you have, and that’s the beauty of it for me”.
12. Food!
“Traveling opens up so many new, exciting culinary experiences! That’s my favourite part”. – Shirley travels
