2020 – Alluring adventure plans a plenty (even better if they go ahead!)
Imagine going into the fridge to fetch the last piece of cake and some cream. You plan to eat this while you watch the latest episode of your current favourite tv show. You open the fridge to find the cream has been knocked over, the cake has been eaten and to top it all of you remember that you have already watched that latest episode. In terms of plans, 2020 was a bit like this. Only worse, because it kept reoccurring like a bad nightmare. Fortunately though, in terms of everything else life wise, I have been extremely lucky. I hope 2021 is a better year for everyone full of plenty alluring adventure plans.

2021 – New alluring adventure plans!
So let us draw a line under 2020 (in this case a dotted line) and move on. I have one thing booked and many plans but as things have progressed, I’ve been coming up with slight adaptions to my plans to suit the current circumstances so that I’m prepared for obstacles.
Part 1. Internship in Phang Nga –
Last June I booked a conservational turtle internship for July 2021. Although, the way things have been progressing, I’m not entirely sure it will go ahead just yet but fingers crossed. It is 6 weeks long and I booked it through GVI.
There is the volunteers beach so I can relax there during week day evenings and on the weekends I intend to get out exploring! There will be lots I come across while there but here are a few of my plans –
- Check out the morning and night market.
- Explore Phuket
- Wander around Phang Nga
- Discover Ban Nam Khem
Part 2. Islands –
Thailand has many astoundingly beautiful islands and I am very much looking forward to experiencing them. I plan to check out –
- Islands along the Krabi coastline – there are so many to choose from!
- Koh Phi Phi – ‘Phi Phi islands’
- Phang Nga islands
I am aware that certain areas such as the James Bond Island can’t be explored but even just to see these islands up close will be phenomenal.
Part 3. Volunteering –
I would love to help a local organisation in some way. A couple of ideas I have are –
- Teach English in a rural community. A possible place is in the countryside of Hanoi, Vietnam with the Everest English centre but more research is needed first.
- Help out at an animal rescue centre. A centre I’ve been looking at in Koh Samui is a tropical island in the South of Thailand called DRCS.
- Where ever I visit though, I will be carrying out beach cleans. Important for the environment and good to give back and not just take from the community you are staying in.
Part 4, 5 & 6 – Vietnam, Cambodia and Southern Thailand
The order I do these in would depend on where I do my volunteering.
- Vietnam – make my way slowly along the country.
- Cambodia – stay at a yoga and meditation retreat, perhaps Hariharalaya.
- Southern Thailand – haven’t looked into this part yet so any ideas are welcome!
Back up plan –
Well things might not go as planned because of Covid so I’ve been starting to think about a back up plan. Hopefully my internship will go ahead and after that if travel from place to place isn’t advised then I think I’ll most likely base myself in Cambodia for a while and wait for things to hopefully open up again. Not sure when I plan to return back to Scotland but I will be here for Christmas anyway. After Christmas I had been thinking about heading to Australia on a year long visa in time for New Years eve to see the Sydney fireworks! However, with travel currently banned into the land Down Under for the rest of 2021, I will have to wait and see!
Hope my plans have inspired you to make some of your own! Let me know where you plan to go and give me suggestions for South East Asia and Australia! Does lockdown have you feeling fed up and unmotivated to make plans? Then check out these wanderlust quotes and reasons on why I love travel to get you inspired for 2021!
Wow turtle internships sounds awesome, I would also love to visit
more thai islands..
I think the internship will now be next year but I’ll get to do it eventually! I would absolutely love to explore all the Islands <3
This internship sounds amazing! I’m like you and have so many adventures I want to do in Asia, especially returning to Vietnam. Fab post x
I’m really looking forward to it – just hope it eventually happens! Think it will be next year now. I definitely want to visit Vietnam, it looks amazing!
Wow!! This sounds like so much fun! I hope you do get to go and covid doesn’t ruin it.
Covid has got in the way so looking at doing all these plans next year instead but will get to them eventually! Better change my title to 2022 travels :’D
